Being a teenager these days can be overwhelming and difficult. Not only are they being faced with the impact and changes of life due to COVID, but the teen years are known for being characterized by challenging moods and behaviors.
Some teens experience extreme forms of dysregulation such as impulsive behaviors (drinking, drug use, sexual interactions), self-harm, suicidal ideation/attempts. Unwavering Counseling offers individual therapy for teenagers, and provides a safe place to discuss these behaviors and navigate their world. Having a safe, nonjudgmental space can help your teen express their emotions outside of their friends and parents.
Dr. Amanda Comstock offers Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills training in an individual therapy format. The term Dialectical in therapy means focusing on accepting your experience while working on changing the negative behaviors.
There are 4 Modules of DBT which include:
· Mindfulness
· Distress Tolerance
· Emotional Regulation
· Interpersonal Effectiveness
By learning these skills, your teen can learn how to live better and less impulsively in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others.
